IPP Piglets We have raised several breeds of pigs. After three years in Oklahoma we settled on just one breed, the Idaho pasture pig, IPP for short. They have a docile disposition which makes them easy and fun to care for. They get their "pasture traits" from the Kunekune pig. Being pasture raised they get a healthier diet and plenty of exercise which translates into very delicious pork chops, hams, sausage and bacon. Most commercial pig farms today are raising stock entirely indoors on concrete floors and they are fed a diet of mostly corn and soybeans. They are also given numerous medications to offset the crowded and unhealthy living conditions. Pigs raised outdoors on grassy pastures and in Silvopasture areas have a diverse diet of plants, insects, nuts and fruit in addition to grain and minerals without the need for over medication. Our pigs are also treated to fresh goat milk and whey. Simply put, pigs raised this way in open pastures = better tasting quality pork.

If you have an interest in a feeder pig to raise yourself or would like to purchase a whole or half IPP for your freezer give us a call and we will put you on our reserve list.

To reserve a side or whole IPP, we require a non-refundable deposit of $100 for a half or $150 for a whole pig which will be deducted from the final cost owed after harvesting the animal.

OWF Farm will provide all the care, feeding, watering and pastures for a completely stress-free quality lifestyle all the way to harvest. You will be notify when we take your hog in to be processed. You will work directly with the processor to get the meat custom cut and packaged just the way you want it. At the time of harvest, we will provide you with the total cost of the meat, which must be paid to OWF Farm within 5 days of harvest or you loose your deposit.

Buying Delicious Pasture Raised Pork

The cost of the meat is figured by multiplying the cost per pound by the hanging weight. Our hogs generally have a hanging weight of 190-260 pounds. You tell the butcher exactly how you want your meat cut and processed. How thick to cut the pork chops and bacon, how much sausage, etc. You get to keep whatever organs you want and all the fat trimmings to make lard if you choose. Your total cost would be something like this;

IPP nose at fence Hanging weight (carcass eviscerated) multiplied by $3.75/lb. for whole hog or $4.00/lb. for half hog paid to OWF Farm.

Paid directly to butcher:
Kill and disposal fee - $55
Cut fee - $0.90 per pound
Grind fee - $1.00 per pound extra
Cure fee - $1.00 per pound extra (bacon ham)
Sausage fee - $0.58 per pound extra

IPP smelling the flowers For a half hog - (110 lbs X $4.00/lb = $440 estimated meat cost paid to OWF Farm) plus the processing cost of the meat paid to the butcher which will vary depending on how much of the meat you have cured or processed into sausage, ham or bacon

Example: An estimate for a whole hog hanging weight of 225 pounds is; $843.75 paid to OWF Farm, plus a kill fee $55 and cut fee of $.90/lb of hanging weight = $257.50 plus $1.00./lb extra for 85 pounds of cured bacon/ham = $85, plus 25 pounds of sausage ground and spiced = $39.50 for a total cost paid to butcher of $382. This cost is paid directly to the butcher at the time you pick up your meat. The butcher will call you when your meat is processed and frozen ready to be picked up. You then pick up your meat, stock your freezer, and enjoy this quality pork for yourself and family! The total cost works out to about $5.45 per pound for the best tasting pasture raised non GMO organic local pork you'll find anywhere.
